Experience Our Peru

Our customized, private insider tours of Peru feature our favorite places and experiences in the country.

Memorable moment...

Seeing the unbelievable setting of Machu Picchu for the first time.

What is the Hiram Bingham train?

It’s a luxurious train of vintage Pullman cars. Travel in style as you enjoy gourmet cuisine and live music during the ride on the Hiram Bingham from Machu Picchu. The train is named after the young American archaeologist who rediscovered Machu Picchu in the early 20th century. Most of our private Peru tours include a ride on the Hiram Bingham.

Exquisite art...

Experience some of the glories of Peru’s past civilizations, from pre-history through the Inca, in excellent museums in Lima and Cusco. We also arrange access to Peru’s best private art collections, including collections that are located in magnificent private homes in Lima,as well as hands-on weaving or pottery lessons with experts in these traditional arts.

Favorite chefs...

Gaston Acurio and Astrid Gutsche create eclectic modern Peruvian dishes at their internationally acclaimed restaurants.

Local cuisine...

Ceviche is a delicious Peruvian dish made of fresh, raw seafood marinated in a citrus-based sauce. We book reservations for our travelers at the best restaurants in Lima and Cusco for local cuisine and fine dining. We can also arrange private cooking classes to learn to prepare ceviche and other Peruvian classics.

Favorite hike...

We can make reservations for our travelers to hike the trail up Huayna Picchu peak. Steep, strenuous but thankfully short, the trail affords spectacular aerial views over Machu Picchu and the surrounding mountains. We can also arrange a deluxe, multi-day trek along the Inca Trail.

Extraordinary wildlife...

Look for pink dolphins, squirrel monkeys and sloths while on a luxury cruise through the waterways of the Amazon basin.

Traditional performance...

See the distinctive gait of Peruvian Paso horses. Their smooth, even footwork has allowed them to adapt to Peru’s difficult terrain.

Families love...

Exploring Machu Picchu together. Also, having us arrange special activities such as visiting a ranch, whitewater rafting, day hikes, visiting weavers, Amazon expedition cruises, and insider-led tours of historic towns.

Signature cocktail...

Peru’s iconic cocktail is the pisco sour, which combines Peruvian pisco (brandy), lime juice, Angostura bitters, simple syrup and egg white. We can arrange a lesson to learn how to make it and its refreshing cousin, the chilcano.

Spectacular drive...

The road from Arequipa to Colca Canyon offers views of vicuna and volcanoes as it crosses incredible high-desert landscapes and goes over a 16,000-foot pass.

Ultimate indulgence...

A private masseuse while hiking the Inca Trail.

The condors of Colca...

Watch Andean condors soar through dramatic Colca Canyon, one of the world’s deepest gorges.

For adventurous eaters...

Roasted cuy (guinea pig) has been an Andean staple for centuries. The animals are also used in folk rituals and traditional healing.

Did you know...

Vicuna wool is the finest and softest in the world? It’s also very expensive because the high-altitude camelids are not domesticated. They have to be trapped to be shorn, after which they are released back into the wild.

Adventures off the beaten path...

We can customize tours with activities such as kayaking on Lake Titicaca, hiking among Inca ruins in the Sacred Valley and rafting on the Urubamba River.

Culture clash...

The cathedral and many other Spanish colonial-era buildings in Cusco were built atop Inca stone foundations, creating an interesting visual and cultural contrast.

See the Inca Ice Maiden...

In Arequipa, we can arrange for our travelers to see the mummified remains of Juanita, a girl sacrificed by the Inca in the 15th century. Her body was well-preserved by the cold air of her mountain burial place.

Home grown...

Peru’s varied geography consists of coastal desert, Andean highlands and Amazonian rainforest, with each landscape offering its own prolific assortment of locally-grown produce. Guided tours through regional markets provide the opportunity to taste flavorful and exotic fruits, vegetables and grains.

Breathtaking moment...

Flying over the Nazca Lines and looking down at the monumental geoglyphs etched in the desert.
