(7 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis) Nairobi, Amboseli, Maasai Mara
This one-week tour is the perfect introduction to two of Kenya’s most popular safari destinations: Amboseli and Maasai Mara.
Begin with a night in Nairobi, Kenya’s bustling capital city. Relax after your long flight in the comfort of one of the city’s best hotels, or enjoy private touring of Nairobi’s highlights. Perhaps visit the Sheldrick elephant orphanage, which is run by a charitable organization that helps save the lives of orphaned elephants and rhinos and is active in community outreach and anti-poaching programs. Another highlight is visiting Nairobi National Park to go on a game drive or safari walk. Other options include the Giraffe Centre, a sanctuary where visitors may learn about and feed endangered Rothschild giraffes; visiting local arts and crafts galleries and museums; or participating in various philanthropic activities.
Next, fly to Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s most popular and rewarding game parks. Amboseli is renowned for its abundant elephant population, as well as its spectacular views of nearby Mount Kilimanjaro. The vegetation in this part of the country is sparse, so sightings of elephants and other animals such as lions, hyenas and zebras are frequent—Amboseli is known as the best place in Africa to get close to elephants in the wild. The semi-arid terrain is commingled with swampland, attracting numerous species of water birds and hippos. Enjoy daily game drives—early morning excursions are especially dramatic, when large herds of elephants can be seen grazing and playing as the sun rises, and views of Mount Kilimanjaro are at their clearest.
Continue to Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s most legendary safari destination. Maasai Mara is famed for its stunning scenery and abundance of wildlife, as well as for being one of the places (besides the Serengeti in Tanzania) where one may witness the annual great wildebeest migration. Spend three nights at one of Kenya’s most luxurious and historic tented camps, located in one of the only parts of the Mara where black rhinos are still found. During exciting and informative game drives, look for rhinos and other members of the Big Five: lions, buffaloes, elephants and leopards. Cheetahs, zebras, Maasai giraffes, ostrich, hippos, crocodiles, and numerous antelope species are also seen frequently. If desired, activities such as walking safaris, river fishing, special meals in the bush, and more can be arranged. Return to Nairobi, where you will be assisted to your international flight.
