Machu Picchu & Easter Island

(13 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Santiago, Valparaiso, Easter Island (Rapa Nui)

This tour incorporates two of South America’s most magical UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Machu Picchu in Peru and Easter Island (Rapa Nui), a territory of Chile.

Begin with a night in Lima before transferring to Cusco, Peru for a stay at the city’s most historic and distinguished hotel. During private touring, learn about the fascinating Incan and Spanish history in the city as you explore the narrow cobblestone streets, markets, galleries, boutiques and the best artisan workshops. If desired, also visit important archaeological sites just outside of the city. Alternatively, take a full-day excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas (Urubamba Valley), a beautiful region dotted with indigenous markets, villages, and Inca and pre-Inca sites.

Continue to Machu Picchu and spend one night near the ruins. Your private guide will teach you about the fascinating history of the site and ensure that you have the opportunity to explore the grounds after most tourists have left. Spend the following day exploring the ruins with the option to hike trails to stunning viewpoints around the site before continuing to Cusco on the luxury Hiram Bingham train.

Return to Lima for an overnight stay. This cosmopolitan city is well worth a visit for the opportunity to experience its history as well as Peru’s best museums, shopping and restaurants. Enjoy personalized touring of the city’s highlights, including the old colonial quarter and colorful food markets.

Next, fly to Santiago, Chile, one of our favorite cities in South America with its breathtaking location framed by the Andes mountains. The city offers wonderful museums, colorful colonial architecture, appealing day trips, and delicious food and wine. Tour the city’s highlights with your own private guide, and take an excursion to Valparaiso, one of the most unique cities in South America and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the steep, labyrinthine streets of the most interesting and colorful cerros (hills), visit one of Valparaiso’s notable museums, and perhaps take one of the many funicular elevators that the city is famous for. If desired, also enjoy wine tasting in one of the neighboring wine regions.

Finally, venture to beautiful Easter Island (Rapa Nui), an isolated volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean that’s a national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. While there, enjoy spectacular landscapes and the opportunity to experience the remains of the island’s ancient culture, including the mysterious moai (stone heads) as well as rock art dedicated to the indigenous Tangata Manu (Bird Man) cult. Participate in tours with local expert guides, such as visits to the most interesting moai and ahu (ceremonial platform) sites, a tour of the moai quarry, walks along cliffs high above the ocean, biking along the coast, and a visit to a ceremonial village perched between the stunning volcanic crater and the Pacific. Conclude the tour with an overnight stay in Santiago.

Throughout the tour, sightseeing is flexible and tailored to your interests, and accommodation is at the best luxury hotels in each destination.
