Journey Through South Africa

(16 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Hermanus, Cape Winelands, Cape Town, Blue Train, Johannesburg, Safari (Kruger National Park and Sabi Sand Reserve), Victoria Falls

This comprehensive, private tour includes South Africa's best cultural and natural wonders as well as an iconic luxury rail journey, two of the best safari destinations in the world, and a side trip to stunning Victoria Falls on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Arrive in Cape Town, where you will be met by your private driver for the transfer to Hermanus, a beautiful coastal town that is renowned for whale watching. During leisure time, enjoy the views from your hotel's stunning clifftop location, and perhaps go for hikes or nature walks. Artisans of Leisure can also arrange spa treatments, land-based whale watching (in season), and other activities.

Continue to the Cape Winelands for an overnight stay at a luxurious retreat in Franschhoek. Enjoy private touring in the region, including personalized wine tastings at some of South Africa's premier vineyards and a visit to the charming town of Stellenbosch. There will be time to explore the town, browse high-end artisan boutiques and indulge in some of the country's most acclaimed gourmet restaurants.

Next, spend three nights at one of our favorite luxury properties in beautiful Cape Town. Enjoy comprehensive private touring with one of Cape Town's most knowledgeable guides. Learn about the city's fascinating history and architecture; take a cable car to the top of the iconic Table Mountain; experience local markets, boutiques, museums, and noted African art galleries; and enjoy Cape Town's incredible food and wine scene, including reservations at top restaurants. Depending on your interests, enjoy other highlights, such as Robben Island, Bo Kaap (the Cape Malay Quarter), and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. One day, take a private excursion along the scenic coastal road to the Cape Peninsula and visit the Cape of Good Hope, Boulders Beach and quaint seaside towns. Private yacht cruises, scenic helicopter flights and adventure activities can also be arranged, upon request.

Then, enjoy one of Africa's most famous rail journeys:  board the Blue Train for an overnight luxury train ride to Pretoria. Take in spectacular scenery while enjoying fine dining and first class accommodation aboard the train. En route, enjoy a stop at the quaint historic town of Matjiesfontein.

Spend two nights in Johannesburg's most exclusive residential neighborhood and enjoy private touring of the city's highlights. "Joburg" has an excellent shopping and art scene and you might like to visit the city's best gallery districts, designer shops, local African art markets, and up-and-coming neighborhoods. Other options include the excellent Apartheid Museum, an insider's tour of Soweto, or a day trip to the Cradle of Humankind.

Next, experience two of South Africa's best safari destinations: Singita's private concession in Kruger National Park and the Sabi Sand Reserve. These areas are renowned for their diverse wildlife—including the Big Five. Stay at two ultra-luxurious safari lodges and enjoy morning and afternoon game drives and guided bush walks during your stays. If desired, a visit to a local community can be arranged. There will also be time to indulge in spa treatments and enjoy elaborate gourmet meals paired with South Africa's best wines.

Conclude your tour at Victoria Falls, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world, on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Enjoy a private sundowner cruise, a private walking tour of the falls, a scenic helicopter ride over the falls, and a game-viewing safari. Other activities can be arranged as per your interests, such as kayaking on the Zambezi River or a visit to a Mukuni village. Return to Johannesburg, where you will be assisted to your international flight.

Artisans of Leisure can also arrange some of our other preferred luxury safari properties as per your preference, including Royal Malewane, Londolozi, or Ulusaba. Please contact one of our Africa specialists to begin planning your tour.
