Conde Nast Traveler Top Travel Specialist: Morocco
We're excited to announce that Artisans of Leisure travel expert Mike Korn has been named Conde Nast Traveler's top Morocco specialist for the fourth year in a row.
Mike has planned hundreds of private Morocco tours and knows the country inside and out. We asked him what he's missing most about Morocco these days:
- The energy: In places like the Djemaa el-Fna (the main public square in Marrakesh), a lively Berber market in the Atlas Mountains or the fishing port in Essaouira, Morocco always has a palpable energy that is intoxicating.
- The people: There are few places I've been that are as welcoming as Morocco. Moroccans are warm, inviting and smart. I've been fortunate to make a lot of friends there, and they always make me feel like I've returned home.
- The spices and the food: I cook a lot, and I aspire to achieve the flavor profiles of Moroccan dishes and the smells of the spice market. I also really miss the complexity of a perfect Moroccan lamb tangia (different from its cousin the tagine) from Al Fassia Gueliz in Marrakesh.
- The craftsmanship: In my opinion, Moroccan design is extremely underappreciated. The tile and woodwork in a ryad rivals some of the best handiwork you can find anywhere. Not to mention the grandeur and meticulousness of the decor in the most opulent hotels.
- The diverse landscapes: In one day you can see large metropolitan cities, green and lush mountain ranges (with snow), the red sand of the Sahara Desert and the bright blue water of the sea.
