This private tour focuses on the delicious cuisine, warm hospitality and rich culture of Sri Lanka. It includes the vibrant capital of Colombo, the verdant tea fields of the Hill Country and the UNESCO-listed port town of Galle.

Culinary activities include walking tours through lively food markets, a private visit to a cinnamon plantation, a private Sri Lankan cooking class, a tea plantation and factory tour, a tea tasting, a walk through tea fields with a planter’s lunch and a private tasting of arrack (liquor made from coconut flower toddy). Artisans of Leisure also arranges reservations at top restaurants and other opportunities to try Sri Lankan culinary favorites, such as rice and curry, sambols, hoppers, kottu, king coconut, buffalo curd, and vegetarian and seafood specialties.

The tour features atmospheric luxury hotels with restaurants that serve high-quality Sri Lankan cuisine, including Ceylon Tea Trails, a Relais & Chateaux hotel inside converted colonial-era planters’ cottages among the tea fields of the Hill Country, and Amangalla, a luxurious urban resort inside a heritage building in beautiful Galle Fort.

This tour can be customized to include visiting crafts workshops (handloom, batik, lacquerware, masks), touring buildings designed by legendary tropical modernism architect Geoffrey Bawa, longer hikes among tea fields on the Pekoe Trail and other activities.

Upon request, the tour can be extended with additional time to include visiting fascinating UNESCO World Heritage sites around the Cultural Triangle (the rock citadel of Sigiriya, the Buddhist caves of Dambulla and the ancient Buddhist cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa), touring the former royal capital of Kandy, scenic train journeys, spotting elephants and other wildlife in Yala National Park or Minneriya National Park and more.
