Gdansk, Warsaw, Krakow, Zakopane
This private luxury tour takes in Poland's top cultural and scenic attractions from north to south, including atmospheric riverside towns, ancient castles, Jewish historic sites, beautiful mountains and an abundance of stunning UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Begin in Gdansk, a historic port city on the Baltic Sea and the birthplace of the Solidarity movement. Tour the backstreets, squares and canals of the Old Town, and also visit Sopot, a fashionable seaside resort of beaches and parks.
Transfer by private car and driver to Warsaw, stopping en route to visit two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Malbork, a massive medieval castle built by the Teutonic Knights, and Torun, a well-preserved medieval town (and birthplace of Copernicus) along the Wisla River.
In Warsaw, enjoy flexible private touring of the Old Town, beautiful royal palaces and parks, sites associated with Warsaw's once-large Jewish population, and monuments of the Communist era. Walk along the Royal Way, lined with historic townhouses, churches, university buildings and boutiques, and perhaps see the unique memorial to Frederic Chopin, a Polish hero.
Next, continue with your private guide and driver through farmland and forests to Krakow, Poland's well-preserved cultural capital. Stop en route in Auschwitz, a moving and unforgettable site. If desired, also stop in Czestochowa to visit an impressive Baroque monastery that is the spiritual heart of Catholic Poland.
In Krakow, tour the Old Town, including the Wawel-the hilltop royal castle and cathedral. Visit ancient churches with colorful Art Nouveau interiors, see da Vinci's Lady with an Ermine, and relax in outdoor cafes in the vast Market Square. Also, tour Kazimierz, the old Jewish district, to see well-preserved synagogues, an ancient Jewish cemetery and traditional neighborhoods.
One day, take an excursion to Wieliczka Salt Mine, a UNESCO Site, which is filled with sculptures, chapels and chambers carved in salt.
Continue to Zakopane, an atmospheric mountain town of wooden houses surrounded by forests. Shop for traditional local crafts and cheese, and enjoy panoramic views of the craggy Tatra Mountains. Return to Krakow for last-minute shopping and a final night, stopping en route in the village of Debno to see a tiny but truly spectacular 15th-century wooden church, also a UNESCO site.
