(15 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Dublin, Kilkenny, Cork, Kenmare, Killarney, Co. Clare (Dromoland Castle), Co. Mayo (Ashford Castle)

This private tour focuses on Ireland’s unique culture, cuisine and crafts. It includes beautiful landscapes, places rich in Irish history, and opportunities for insider, hands-on access to Ireland’s artisans and cultural experts.

Begin in Dublin, the capital of Ireland and the perfect starting point for an overview of the country’s long and storied history. During touring with your private guide and driver, marvel at the iconic Book of Kells and the Long Room in the Old Library at Trinity College, and tour St. Patrick’s Cathedral, one of the most important churches in Ireland. Walk in the footsteps of Irish literary giants such as James Joyce and Oscar Wilde in Georgian Dublin, a neighborhood of well-preserved architecture set around leafy St. Stephen’s Green. Take a culinary walking tour to sample treats at top local food markets and shops. Enjoy a private tour of the Old Jameson Distillery, followed by a private tasting of the distillery’s finest products. Perhaps opt for high tea with pastries inspired by Ireland’s literary and artistic masters. Depending on interests, stroll through the Temple Bar entertainment district, browse the upscale shops on Grafton Street, perhaps cross the River Liffey to walk along historic O’Connell Street, or stop by the Guinness Storehouse and opt for a pint in the on-site bar, which has views over the rooftops of Dublin. Additional touring options in Dublin include the National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology, Kilmainham Gaol and Chester Beatty Library. Upon request, Artisans of Leisure can also arrange theater tickets and reservations at Dublin’s best restaurants for contemporary Irish cuisine.

En route to Kilkenny, enjoy private touring in idyllic County Wicklow. Tour the stunning gardens at Powerscourt House and Gardens. Pass through verdant farmland and rolling hills to Glendalough, a beautiful glacial valley with the ruins of an ancient monastery set among lakes. Also tour historic Avoca Mill, where some of Ireland’s finest and most colorful textiles have been produced for centuries.

Continue to Kilkenny, an atmospheric riverside town of medieval streets and the center of Ireland’s burgeoning local crafts movement. Tour Kilkenny Castle, a popular landmark from the 13th century. Also see St. Canice’s Cathedral—a noted Gothic church—and the ancient Round Tower that sits among the Celtic cross tombstones in its churchyard. Also visit Kilkenny Design Centre, a showcase of locally produced crafts such as textiles, ceramics, furniture, glass, jewelry and leather goods. This afternoon, visit one of Ireland’s most renowned cheesemakers for a private cheesemaking demonstration and tasting. Additional options include visiting the workshop of local glass artisans, seeing the ruins of Jerpoint Abbey or Kells Priory, or shopping for crystal in Waterford.

Continue with your private driver-guide to County Cork, stopping en route at the imposing Rock of Cashel, an important hilltop religious complex dating from the Middle Ages. Learn about the roots of Irish cuisine with a private cooking class at a renowned cooking school. In the city of Cork, tour the excellent English Market, where purveyors offer fresh local produce, meat, fish and baked goods. Visit nearby Kinsale, a picturesque fishing village known as one of Ireland’s top culinary destinations due to its fresh seafood and highly regarded restaurants. Another option is the port town of Cobh, the departure point for over 2.5 million Irish immigrants and the final port of call of the R.M.S. Titanic.

Next, drive deep into the bucolic countryside of rural West Cork. Explore charming seaside villages; stop by artisanal food producers to sample local specialties such as cheese and black pudding; and visit historic Bantry House & Garden, a privately owned estate on park-like grounds overlooking spectacular Bantry Bay.

Continue to County Kerry and Kenmare, a colorful village with a prehistoric stone circle and access to the beautiful peninsulas that define southwest Ireland. Enjoy a scenic drive around the breathtaking Beara Peninsula, a wild landscape of jagged coastlines, craggy mountains and sparkling lakes.

En route to Killarney, travel through the heart of Killarney National Park to Muckross House. Tour the estate and grounds, and perhaps also visit Muckross Traditional Farms, an open-air museum, to learn to bake traditional brown bread. Next, take a horse-drawn jaunting car ride through the woods to Ross Castle, and then a private boat ride among the islands and rocky outcroppings of Lough Leane.

One day, enjoy a private excursion around the spectacular Dingle Peninsula, taking in awe-inspiring views of the coastline and mountains. Along the way, explore ancient ring forts and other prehistoric sites, wander through quaint seaside towns, and visit shops featuring crafts created by the many local artisans. Another option is to explore the Ring of Kerry, driving the dramatic route atop the sea cliffs and through the mountains of the Iveragh Peninsula.

Pass through Adare, a postcard-perfect village of thatched-roof houses and shops, en route to Bunratty Castle. Tour the impressive 15th-century fortress and neighboring Bunratty Folk Park, a charming recreation of a 19th-century Irish village. Continue to historic Dromoland Castle, a luxurious destination hotel and resort on expansive grounds. During leisure time, enjoy on-site activities such as golf, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, falconry, tennis, archery and more. Opt to tour the kitchen garden with the hotel’s head gardener to select fresh produce for dinner. Or, fish for trout or perch on Dromoland Lough. Alternatively, opt to enjoy dinner in a local village famous for traditional Irish music.

En route to Ashford Castle, explore the country charm and geological wonders of County Clare. Walk along the tops of the dramatic Cliffs of Moher, which rise hundreds of feet above the sea. Explore the eerie Burren, a rocky karst landscape punctuated by ancient forts, tombs and other archaeological sites. Pass through picturesque villages with brightly colored houses and shops. Stop at a local smokehouse famous for smoked Irish salmon, and enjoy lunch at a nearby pub. Continue to Ashford Castle, a historic lakefront castle hotel and resort that’s a wonderful place to experience Irish culture and cuisine. During leisure time, enjoy activities on the surrounding estate, such as golf, fishing, horseback riding, falconry, kayaking and more.

One day, enjoy a private excursion to Connemara National Park, a rugged landscape of mountains, moors and bogs. Along the way, pass through tiny villages, admire views of the sea, and visit Kylemore Abbey, a beautiful stone building and gardens set on the edge of a lake.
