Journey Through Austria

(11 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Vienna, Graz, Salzburg, Innsbruck

This private luxury tour of Austria features inspiring cultural attractions, the beauty of the Austrian Alps, delicious local culinary specialties, luxurious hotels with Austrian style, and activities customized to your interests.

Begin in Vienna, one of the most culturally rich cities in Europe. During flexible private touring with your expert local guide, explore the most interesting neighborhoods, visit historic Viennese cafes and sprawling food markets, and experience the wealth of spectacular art, architecture and history in this former imperial capital. Touring is flexible and customized to your interests. Some of our favorite family-friendly options in Vienna include visiting the Spanish Riding School to see the Lipizzaner Stallions and take a behind-the-scenes tour of their stables; seeing the highlights of world-renowned palaces and museums such as the MuseumsQuartier, Kunsthistorisches, Albertina, Liechtenstein, Schönbrunn and Freud Museum; touring architectural monuments ranging in style from Gothic to Secessionist to Modern; visiting shops renowned for linens, antiques, crystal, chocolate and gourmet food; and tasting local specialties in the enormous Naschmarkt food market. One day, continue your private city touring, or take a cruise on the Danube River through the Wachau, a beautiful wine-producing river valley. We arrange many other options in Vienna depending on the ages and interests of your family members, including in-depth music-themed touring, visits to child-friendly museums, performances at the marionette theater, and dressing up in the costumes of the imperial court.

Next, transfer to Graz, stopping en route to tour an impressive castle and a gourmet chocolate factory. In Graz, tour the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of well-preserved architecture from throughout the city’s long and storied history. See traditional folk arts and architecture from the region, as well as exciting contemporary additions to the town’s heritage, such as the futuristic Kunsthaus and Mur Island. Also, sample culinary products from the surrounding state of Styria, considered one of the best food regions in Austria.

En route to Salzburg, visit the stud farm of the Lipizzaner Stallions, set among an idyllic landscape of hills, meadows and forests. Continue to Salzburg, a charming Baroque town famous for Mozart and The Sound of Music. Tour highlights such as the Cathedral, Mozart's birthplace, and the Mirabell Palace and Gardens. Walk down Getreidegasse, Salzburg's most famous shopping street, and visit select boutiques specializing in local products such as loden coats, Christmas decorations and Mozartkugel chocolate pralines. Also, take a private excursion through the Salzkammergut, a stunning region of mountains and lakes in the Austrian Alps, and visit film sites from The Sound of Music.

Next, travel to Innsbruck, stopping en route to visit Swarovski Crystal World, where crystals have been fashioned into fascinating art installations inside, and a garden maze and art exhibits invite exploration outside. Continue to Innsbruck, a mountain town with a dramatic Alpine backdrop, and stay three nights at a castle-style hotel in the hills. Enjoy flexible touring with your private guide, such as exploring the highlights of the Old Town, learning about local Tyrolean culture, and visiting the workshops of local artisans. One morning, go for a hike on the forested mountain slopes with a private mountain guide. During leisure time, perhaps opt for activities in the region such as horseback riding, mountain biking, fishing, swimming, rafting and more.
