Experience Our Malta

Our customized, private insider tours of Malta feature our favorite places and experiences in the country.

Insider Access…

Artisans of Leisure can arrange after-hours private tours at top attractions throughout Malta, including St. Johns Co-Cathedral to see Caravaggio’s masterworks, The Beheading of St. John the Baptist (1608) and St. Jerome Writing (c.1607-08).

On the water…

Have us charter a private yacht around the islands and enjoy seeing the famous Blue Grotto on Comino Island.

Local pastime…

Watch a heated match of bocce, a favorite local sport derived from ancient Roman ball games.

Foodies love…

Learning to cook traditional Maltese dishes during private cooking classes, sampling Maltese breads that reflect both Arabic and Italian influences, tasting honey and trying traditional snacks such as savorypastizzi pastries.

Magnificent interiors…

Artisans of Leisure can arrange private insider tours of the spectacular interiors of private palaces and homes such as Casa Rocca Piccola.

Shop like a local…

Pick up Maltese specialties such as glass, nougat, lace and filigreed jewelry, and meet with local artisans such as clockmakers, lace makers and glass blowers.

Active travelers…

Enjoy sunset yoga at ancient Roman salt pans, hiking, diving, horseback riding and 4WD touring in Gozo.

The Maltese Falcon…

We reserve private experiences throughout Malta, such as learning about falconry with birds of prey.

Did you know?

Mdina’s medieval streets are deliberately narrow and winding, a contribution of Islamic urban planning that’s said to help locals outrun the arrows of enemy invaders.

Unique architecture…

Maltese architecture’s fascinating blend of Arabic, Moorish and European influences has developed over centuries. Brightly colored Maltese covered wooden balconies in Valletta are a particular highlight.

For wine lovers…

We arrange vineyard visits and private wine tastings at local boutique vineyards.

Spot the Maltese Cross…

All over the islands: on the exteriors of palaces, inside churches, on paintings and in furniture. The eight-pointed cross was the heraldic device of the Knights of St. John who ruled Malta for 250 years and were responsible for a great flourishing of Baroque art and architecture. It is now an intrinsic symbol of Malta and Maltese culture.

And the George’s Cross…

Incorporated into the Flag of Malta, it was awarded to the entire population of Malta by King George IV of the United Kingdom for heroism during what was the heaviest sustained bombing of any country during World War II. We can arrange tours of the Lascaris War Rooms, an underground tunnel complex used during WWII.

Baroque nights…

Stay in a Relais & Chateaux hotel in a restored historic Baroque palace in atmospheric Mdina, and enjoy panoramic views from the award-winning restaurant.

Ancient history…

Tour the UNESCO-listed ancient megalithic structures of Malta such as the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, a unique underground complex, and the temples of Ggantija and Hagar Qim, among the oldest in the world.

When to go…

Malta is a year-round destination thanks to its Mediterranean climate, but feast days, festivals and Easter are especially great for experiencing cultural celebrations.

Local superstition…

The colorful traditional fishing boats in Maltese harbor towns are decorated with an eye on either side of the bow. Believed to protect fishermen at sea, the custom dates to Phoenician times.
