Must Stay: La Bastide de Gordes in Provence
The South of France is a perennial favorite destination for Artisans of Leisure travelers.
This year, we’re excited about the reopening of La Bastide de Gordes, a sophisticated hotel and spa that offers luxury and style in the heart of Provence.
Perched on the steep slopes of Gordes, a beautiful and ancient Provencal hill town, the hotel is an ideal base for exploring villages, markets, wineries and other attractions in the surrounding Luberon region.
Extensive refurbishments have freshened up the traditional character of the property, which comprises several historic stone buildings built on top of 12th-century ramparts.
Guest rooms and suites feature antique furniture and carpets, designer wallpaper and select pieces from the hotel’s impressive art collection.
The beautiful terraced gardens of La Bastide de Gordes are landscaped with Mediterranean plants and punctuated by three outdoor swimming pools. The on-site Sisley spa offers several treatment rooms, as well as an indoor pool, hammam, steam room and sauna.
Dining is a highlight at La Bastide de Gordes, with fine French cuisine served in classically decorated dining rooms or outside on patios with open views of the surrounding hills and valleys of the Luberon. One restaurant specializes in local dishes, while the other features contemporary gastronomy overseen by world-renowned chef Pierre Gagnaire.
Several of our private luxury France tours feature stays in the Luberon region. La Bastide de Gordes and other destinations in Provence can also easily be added to any of our France itineraries. Contact an Artisans of Leisure France specialist to start planning.
