Art Tour of Switzerland

(6 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Geneva, Basel & Weil am Rhein (Germany), Zurich with St. Gallen & Winterthur

This private tour of Switzerland features outstanding art and architecture, well-preserved historic districts, stunning landscapes and the finest luxury hotels in the country.

Begin in Geneva, a historic lakeside city. During private touring, visit highlights such as the Museum of Art and History, the MAMCO (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) and the Quartier des Bains gallery district. Also tour the Old Town to see highlights such as the Hotel de Ville and Place du Bourg-de-Four. Also see the Jet d'Eau water fountain and perhaps visit a watch shop or watch museum. Other options include seeing the Red Cross museum or the European headquarters of the United Nations, visiting the Conservatory and Botanical Garden, and exploring the Carouge district.

Next, transfer to Basel, stopping en route in Weil am Rhein, Germany, to tour the Vitra Design Museum and factory, a remarkable collection of buildings by some of the world's leading architects, including Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid and Tadao Ando. Continue to Basel, home to several excellent museums and one of the world's most important contemporary art fairs. With your private guide, tour the highlights of the Old Town; visit the city's best art spaces, such as the Kunstmuseum and Fondation Beyeler; and see architectural landmarks such as the Schaulager, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, and the Goetheanum, by Rudolf Steiner. You might also like to opt to extend time in Basel to make a private excursion to the Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut, one of Le Corbusier's most renowned designs, in nearby Ronchamp, France.

Continue to Zurich, one of Europe's most sophisticated cities. During private touring with your local expert guide, see highlights such as the Old Town, Kunsthaus, Landesmuseum (Swiss National Museum), Pavillon Le Corbusier, and churches with stained-glass windows designed by Marc Chagall and Sigmar Polke. One day, enjoy a private excursion to St. Gallen. Walk the atmospheric backstreets of the Old Town, and visit the Abbey District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site centered on a Baroque cathedral, abbey and abbey library with an ornate interior. Also visit the Textile Museum to learn about the local lace and embroidery industry. Time permitting, stop in Winterthur to see the highlights of the Oskar Reinhart art collection.
