Art Tour of Switzerland

(6 Days - Departs Daily on a Private Basis)
Geneva, Lausanne, Basel, Weil am Rhein, Zurich, St. Gallen, Winterthur

This private tour of Switzerland features outstanding art and architecture, well-preserved historic districts, stunning landscapes and the finest luxury hotels in the country.

Begin in Geneva, with private touring of highlights such as the Museum of Art and History, the MAMCO (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) and the Quartier des Bains gallery district. Continue to Lausanne and the beautiful Lake Geneva region for a stay at the elegant Beau-Rivage Palace—one of the best luxury hotels in Switzerland—among lush parkland on the shore of the lake.

One day, take a private excursion in the surrounding region to visit Chateau de Chillon, Switzerland’s most interesting castle, and the Lavaux wine region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of 800-year-old terraced vineyards that skirt the edge of Lake Geneva and offer dramatic views of the Alps. Artisans of Leisure will arrange for you to enjoy exclusive activities such as private wine tasting and a private chocolate making experience at a local confectioner.

Next, transfer to Basel, stopping en route in Weil am Rhein, Germany, to tour the Vitra Design Museum and factory, a remarkable collection of buildings by some of the world’s leading architects, including Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid and Tadao Ando.

Continue to Basel, home to several excellent museums and one of the world’s most important contemporary art fairs. With your private guide, tour the highlights of the Old Town; visit the city’s best art spaces, such as the Kunstmuseum and Fondation Beyeler; and see architectural landmarks such as the Schaulager, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, and the Goetheanum, by Rudolf Steiner. You might also like to opt to extend time in Basel to make a private excursion to the Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut, one of Le Corbusier’s most renowned designs, in nearby Ronchamp, France.

Next, visit Zurich, one of Europe’s most sophisticated cities. During private touring with your local expert guide, see highlights such as the Old Town, Kunsthaus, Landesmuseum (Swiss National Museum), the Centre Le Corbusier-Heidi Weber Museum, and churches with stained glass windows designed by Marc Chagall and Sigmar Polke. One day, enjoy a private excursion to St. Gallen. Walk the atmospheric backstreets of the Old Town, and visit the Abbey District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site centered on a Baroque cathedral, abbey and abbey library with an ornate interior. Also visit the Textile Museum to learn about the local lace and embroidery industry. Time permitting, stop in Winterthur to see the highlights of the Oskar Reinhart art collection.

This tour can easily be extended to include additional days or other attractions in Switzerland, such as Lucerne, Interlaken and the Swiss Alps.
