Luang Prabang
On this private Laos tour, experience the best of Luang Prabang, an enchanting traditional town along the Mekong River. Stay at two different resorts—one in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town center and the other in the rural hills nearby—and enjoy cultural touring and unique activities that immerse you in Lao traditions, history and lifestyle.
Begin with a stay at Amantaka, an exclusive luxury resort in the historic center that’s ideal for exploring the rich local culture. During private touring with your own guide and driver, walk through streets lined with a unique blend of traditional Lao and French colonial architecture. Visit landmarks such as the National Museum and Wat Xieng Thong, an important Buddhist temple. Explore a local food market with a chef to learn about Lao herbs and cuisine, and visit handicrafts workshops to browse for handwoven silk and cotton textiles and other items. Perhaps climb Mount Phousi, a small hill with panoramic views over the town and river. One day, take a memorable private cruise on the Mekong River to visit riverside craft villages and the Pak Ou Caves, an important Buddhist pilgrimage site. If desired, also rise early to give alms to local Buddhist monks during their dawn procession, and learn more about Buddhism’s central role in Lao culture.
Next, stay at Rosewood Luang Prabang, a romantic luxury resort built along a stream in the forested hills outside town. One day, enjoy a visit to an elephant sanctuary to learn about the history of wild elephants in Laos and walk with the gentle giants through the forest. Also get a taste of rural Lao life during a visit to a local hill tribe village, and hike to beautiful Kuang Si Waterfall and other attractions.
Upon request, Artisans of Leisure can incorporate additional activities into this tour, such as hiking, biking, kayaking, jungle excursions, a visit to a private home, photography excursions and more.
This tour combines well with other destinations in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

My time in Laos was very special. The guides made me feel like a local…the private touring made all the difference. I feel privileged to have enjoyed such a thoughtfully constructed tour to a treasure of a country.

All I can say is WOW! It is unbelievable how many things we were able to see and do in Hong Kong, Cambodia and Laos. The tour was truly spectacular. Our guides were also outstanding.
