Stockholm & environs

This private luxury tour of Sweden features in-depth cultural touring in Stockholm, private excursions to favorite regional attractions (including royal castles and the Stockholm Archipelago), and the best of Swedish cuisine, design and lifestyle.

With your own private guide, explore the many highlights of Stockholm, the seaside capital of Sweden. Walk the medieval streets of atmospheric Gamla Stan (Old Town) to see the Royal Palace, Nobel Museum and other interesting places. Visit the city's best food hall, and perhaps have lunch at one of its renowned restaurants. Tour City Hall, where the Nobel Prize dinner is held, to see its magnificent interiors, including the Gold Room, which sparkles with mosaics. Visit the best-known boutiques for Swedish design, including Svenskt Tenn. Also see the impressive and well-preserved 17th-century ship at the Vasamuseet. If desired, learn about traditional rural Swedish life at Skansen, an open-air museum filled with historic buildings from around the country. Also enjoy a cruise on the harbor and along the Djurgarden Canal. Other touring options include visiting Rosendal's Garden, Haga Park, Hallwyl Museum, ABBA The Museum or the National Museum.

One day, enjoy a cruise through the beautiful Stockholm Archipelago, a group of thousands of forested islands along the Baltic Sea coast. Stop at select islands to visit small towns and historic sites, spot native wildlife, shop for handicrafts and meet local people. Depending on the weather, you might even like to go for a swim. If desired, also visit Artipelag, a contemporary cultural center on an island, to enjoy the art, architecture, cuisine and wooded trails overlooking the sea.

Another day, take a private excursion to the university town of Uppsala to tour highlights such as the Domkyrka (Cathedral) and Gamla Uppsala, an important archaeological site centered on ancient burial mounds. Alternatively, take an excursion to Drottningholm Palace, the residence of the Swedish royal family and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see the beautiful interiors and theater; Gripsholm Castle, a Renaissance-era royal castle on the edge of a lake, to tour the Swedish interiors and explore the nearby town of Mariefred; or Sturehov Manor to tour its well-preserved 18th-century Swedish interiors.

Artisans of Leisure can also arrange reservations at the top restaurants in and around Stockholm and excursions to Sigtuna and other destinations.
